Halnaker Park Cottage

Alterations and remodeling of a Grade II listed 17th-century farmhouse within the South Downs National Park, restoring its historic layout and character.

Halnaker Park Cottage, a former 17th-century timber-framed farmhouse with later brick additions, had been altered and extended over time, including subdivision in the 1970s to create an annex. The remodeling project involved removing two 1970s staircases, allowing the reinstatement of the original ground-floor reception rooms and first-floor bedrooms to their original proportions. A new entrance hall and oak staircase were designed and constructed, accompanied by a new principal entrance door that enhances the historic character of the house. The project carefully balanced modern functionality with the preservation of the building’s heritage, respecting the farmhouse’s Grade II listed status and location within the South Downs National Park.
